The Purple Rose

Northborough, MA 01532

Hours: Mon-Sat 10-5

The Purple Rose is located in Northborough, Massachusetts on historical Route 20. As the only road from Boston to New York during the Revolutionary War, this road was traveled by George Washington, Paul Revere, and Henry Knox. Today Route 20 is known for it’s George Washington and Henry Knox memorials, as well as old New England style including antique shops and beautiful old colonial homes.

While the date of construction is debatable, we do know that the estate across the street known as the White Cliffs was built by Daniel Wesson, of Smith and Wesson Firearms Magnate, in 1886. It is then said that Wesson built a house across the street for his son in law Captain Jeremiah Hunt. Rumor has it that Mr. Wesson was not Jeremiah’s biggest fan. It is also said that there are underground tunnels that lead between the two house, believed to have been used by servants and women during the winter months. Some of the Purple Rose’s former residents are believed to have never left their second floor dwelling. That’s right, the spirits of three women have been mildly haunting the first room to the left at the top of the stairs. If you arrive early in the morning you can smell the scent of fresh coffee brewing in that very room. They are harmless though, and very protective of the present owner Mrs. Vicki Martelli. Unless you want to see bottles mysteriously fly off shelves, I would suggest you don’t mess with Vicki.

Today the Jeremiah Hunt House has been converted into a fascinating store that has become a stomping ground for housewives and working women alike. We even get our fair share of style savvy men as well. As the interior design and home décor industry’s grow, New Englander’s are partial to cottage style living. The Purple Rose represents the New England Style with a combination of the industries more prominent styles. Offering ten rooms on two floors of modern elements of classic designs as well as gorgeous reproductions of timeless furniture pieces. Each room captures a different design component and represents the best of color. We like to tell our customers that we are a little of everything, from Shabby Chic to European and French Country.
